Breathe and whisper in Central

2015/10/16 — 10:01

Clean Air Network, Designing Hong Kong, Friends of the Earth (HK) and The Conservancy Association have submitted a proposal to the Town Planning Board to convert Des Voeux Road Central into a tram and pedestrian precinct – a promenade without traffic noise, and without roadside air pollution.

Friday: Deadline for supporting pedestrianisation of Des Voeux Road Central

We need your support – sign the on-line petition letter or send your own letter before midnite (11:59pm) on Friday, 16th October, 2015.

The chance to reorganize traffic flows in the Central Business District has arrived

As the new roads and MTR lines are completed, accessibility of Central for private and public transport, including buses, will improve. The completion of the MTR extension to Kennedy Town and reorganization of bus routes; the progress on the Central-Wanchai Bypass, the Shatin to Central Link, and the South Island Line; and the planned Northern Island Line will help reduce the traffic volume along Des Voeux Road Central.

The proposal is to make Des Voeux Road Central (DVRC) a vital east-west pedestrian link. A strip along the centre of the DVRC would be reserved for trams. The roads that cross DVRC including Rumsey Street, Wing Wo Street, Jubilee Street, Pottinger Street and Pedder Street will remain open so that traffic can connect between Queen’s Road Central and Connaught Road Central.
