Interested in starting a water taxi business in Hong Kong?

Many cities (see below) have dedicated water taxi vessels for tourists.

As many harbourfronts are still works sites only harbour tours which offer catering are profitable in Hong Kong. We do have launches which are chartered for running crew and passengers to and from cargo and cruise vessels, and workers to and from construction sites. These launches lay idle for many hours of the day. I believe that they can increase their profitability by offering water taxi services during down time.

It is understood that direct calling of vessels and paying the captain for a ride runs afoul of the law and insurance. What is needed is a booking centre which receives the payment and charters the vessels, and a booking app which connects passengers and vessels.

With the success of Uber, GoGoVan and others – this business model already exists for road transport. To promote this concept for water taxi services, Designing Hong Kong has registered www.watertaxi.hk and is now inviting proposals. Let me be clear – this is a public interest promotion. Once we have identified operators to roll out the service, we will hand over the URL www.watertaxi.hk for free.

Let’s see who is first in signing up the launch, walla-walla and other vessel operators.
