July Issue Highlight: “Excerpt” by Cia Rinne

A look at one of our multilingual feature's star poems.

Asymptote's super-sweet July Issue is nearing its one-month anniversary, and the blog continues to pay homage to some of the journal's most exciting content. I mean—the blog just doesn't discriminate when it comes to an issue filled with some of the best writing from across the globe—but we can pick favorites. Though it's hard. (Wah.) It's tough to choose a favorite from the journal, but the journal's got a tougher job: assembling an issue from the masses of submissions in the first place. Ellen Jones, Asymptote's criticism editor (and the July issue's defiantly nontraditional Multilingual Feature editor) received upwards of two hundred submissions for a section that doesn't rightly fit with the kind of writing you'll find anywhere else. But the ensuing special feature's offbeat and on-point writing bespeaks the importance of writing in between and against convention.
