Tai Ho Wan landowners are talking to God

2016/1/25 — 10:07

The land owners of Tai Ho Wan in Lantau are angry. And they want the Gods to know.

Tai Ho Wan area was covered with a Development Permission Area plan to control development on 20 March 2015. Small sites were identified for small house developments and an area with mangroves at the mouth of the river were designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest in line with a previous designation by the Agriculture and Fisheries Department.

Unhappy with the decision, land owners cut down the mangroves. They also cut off footpaths to restrict public access. It appears from Google Earth that they also erected a huge sign “SSSI” with a large cross through.

In the meantime government is standing idly by. They claim to have no powers. And they are making no effort to get the powers they need to protect Hong Kong’s natural habitats from wanton destruction. All under the banner that private property rights are protected.
